I came across some herbs used in this festival at the Kepala Batas temple. They may be used for making medical ointment.

8.10.2018 Welcome back 9 Emperor Gods!

Today is the eve of the 9 Emperor Gods Festival. The first temple I visited was the Tao Bu Keong at Kepala Batas. Even though it was the eve, it's already bustling with activities from the ceremonies to the kitchen. 

This is the main shrine of the temple. There are 12 images : Tao Bu, Nam Tao, Pak Tao and the 9 Emperor Gods.

This temple is famous for its mikoo. They are made by volunteers living nearby .

Spirit medium at Cheng Kon Tze

It's pure luck to be able to witness the spirit medium at work at this temple. I never had the chance to witness this during my previous visits.  He recites his verses of blessings in a peculiar language.

The Seafront Chew Jetty Tao Boo Keong temple

Cheng Kon Sze a.k.a Cheng Kuan Soo, Paya Terubong, Penang

Cheng Kuan Soo or its official name, Cheng Kon Tze is a Taoist temple dedicated to Tao Boo and her sons, the Nine Emperor Gods. It is located on a hill surrounded by plantations. In respect for the sanctity of this temple, those who intend to hike up to the temple during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival must go on a vegetarian fast and abstain from uttering inauspicious words.
